Universal has officially delayed the release date for Fast & Furious 9 by a year to Spring 2021, in response to concerns over the coronavirus situation. As the world responds to the disease’s global outbreak, the entertainment industry at large has already been affected in major ways. Events such as SXSW, E3, CinemaCon, and ACE Comic Con have already been cancelled over concerns about the disease spreading due to the large crowds in attendance. Similarly, major upcoming releases like No Time to Die and A Quiet Place Part II have now been delayed from their original late March and early April launch dates.
Recently, Fast & Furious star and producer Vin Diesel offered his assurances that wouldn’t happen with Fast & Furious 9, ahead of the film’s schedule release in late May. However, as the coronavirus situation continues to fluctuate, it’s a promise that he simply could not keep. Now, the next installment in The Fast Saga (as the franchise was renamed by Universal earlier this year) has also been postponed.
