Santa Barbara Film Fest: Timothée Chalamet Tapped for Arlington Artist of the Year Award

Timothée Chalamet, the Oscar-nominated actor who stars in two of 2024’s highest-profile awards contenders, James Mangold‘s A Complete Unknown and Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune: Part Two, will be honored with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival‘s Arlington Artist of the Year Award, the fest exclusively tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Chalamet will be feted Feb. 11 at Santa Barbara’s historic Arlington Theatre, after which the award is named. The actor, who will turn 29 on Dec. 27, will participate in a career-retrospective conversation that will highlight, in particular, his two 2024 films, prior to being presented with his hardware.

“I’m a big fan of Bob Dylan, and I was blown away by Chalamet’s transformation in A Complete Unknown,” SBIFF executive director Roger Durling said in a statement. “His performance is galvanizing and electrifying, especially coming on the heels of the major box office triumph earlier this year with Dune: Part Two. Truly, this is the age of Chalamet.”

In 2018, Chalamet, in recognition of his performance in 2017’s Call Me by Your Name, became the youngest best actor Oscar nominee since 1939. He has already starred in five best picture Oscar nominees — Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird, Little Women, Dune and Don’t Look Up — and that figure could grow by one or even two in early 2025. Other notable credits include Bones and All, The French Dispatch, Beautiful Boy, The King, Interstellar and Wonka. He is currently in production on Josh Safdie’s A24 film Marty Supreme, which was inspired by the late American table tennis legend Martin “Marty” Reisman.

The 40th SBIFF will take place Feb. 4-15. Previously announced honorees include Maria’s Angelina Jolie, Conclave’s Ralph Fiennes, Emilia Pérez’s Zoe Saldaña, The Brutalist’s Adrien Brody and Guy Pearce, A Real Pain’s Kieran Culkin, Babygirl’s Harris Dickinson, Emilia Pérez’s Karla Sofía Gascón and Emilia Pérez’s Selena Gomez, Wicked’s Ariana Grande, Sing Sing’s Clarence Maclin, Anora’s Mikey Madison and September 5’s John Magaro. Additional honorees will be announced in the coming weeks.
